Richard grew up in Michigan and graduated from Mattawan High School, where he played both football and basketball. In 1972, he met the love of his life, Pamala White, and it was truly love at first sight. They were married on November 18, 1972, and soon after were blessed with their daughter, Dannette, in 1973.
Richard had a strong work ethic and a passion for providing for his family. He worked as a plant manager at Kalamazoo Stamping and Die before becoming a small business owner. Later, he spent time in Florida working as a mortgage broker before returning to Michigan to own another convenience store. He retired in 2011 and moved back to Florida.
Beyond his professional life, He was a successful girls' high school softball coach, where he not only built winning teams but also made a lasting impact on the lives of his players. Coaching his daughter, Dannette, was one of his greatest joys.
Richard will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his love of sports, always making people laugh and his ability to connect with others. He always would catch you off guard with his witty sense of humor. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
He is survived by his beloved wife of over 53 years, Pamala Dowling; his daughter, Dannette Helgemo, and son-in-law, Steve; his grandsons, Daniel, Reid, and Sam; and his great-grandchildren, Maxwell and Blair.
