Richard C. E. "Dick" Johnson, 87, of Rockford, died on Sunday, July 28, 2024. Born on July 17, 1937 to Frank and Marion (Engstrom) Johnson. Richard graduated West High School in 1955. He married Joy Larson on August 2, 1958. She predeceased him in 1988. He then married Barbara Parnell on February 27, 1993. Richard was a farmer and later worked with his son Bruce in the lawn/landscaping business for twenty-five years. He was a founding member of Evergreen Covenant Church in Rockford and attended Park Hills Church in Winnebago. He had a very strong faith, and an immense love for people. Richard was also part of the Winnebago Historical Society, served on the Winnebago Township Board, and Winnebago Cemetery Board. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking.
Survived by his wife Barbara; children Bruce (Mindy) Johnson, Jan (Carlos) Tuero, Dave (Teresa) Johnson, Tim Johnson, Linda (Dan) Held, J.P. (Celeste) Parnell, Scott (Cheryl) Parnell, Kathryn (Dan) Holder, Dave (Carla) Parnell, Carol (Jeff) Reierson, and Jamie (Beth) Jensen; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Predeceased by his parents, brothers, Bill (Dorothy) and Dwight (Charlene) Johnson, and his first wife Joy. Special thank you to OSF Hospice and his helpful friend, Bill Cotner.
Memorial Service will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, August 3, 2024 in Park Hills Church - Winnebago Campus, 500 W. Winnebago St., Winnebago, IL 61088. Visitation will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday prior to the service in the church. Memorials can be made to the family - they will distribute to one of these 3 organizations that were dear to Dick's heart: 1) Park Hills Church, Winnebago 2) Rockford Rescue Mission 3) A Pregnancy Care Center.
