The Honorable Richard "Dick" Eagleton, 94, of Peoria, Illinois passed away on Saturday November 23, 2024 at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born on June 29, 1930 in Peoria, Illinois, the son of William and Mary Louise (Chandler) Eagleton.
Dick married Elizabeth "Whiff" Waterman in 1953. He married Joyce White on June 18, 1994 in Peoria, Illinois. Dick graduated from Peoria High School, class of 1947. He was a member of the ROTC at Yale University. After graduating in 1952, he proudly served in the U.S. Navy for three years. Following his enlistment, he received his J.D. from the University of Illinois College of Law. In a family line of lawyers, Dick carried on the family tradition becoming a central Illinois U.S. Attorney during the Kennedy / Johnson administration and a 10th Circuit Court Judge. After retiring from the bench, he worked of counsel with Hinshaw & Culbertson.
He is survived by his wife Joyce Eagleton; children David (Cathy) Eagleton of Tucson, Arizona, Margaret (Trusten Perry) of Fairbanks, Alaska, Jeffery (Jennifer) White of Austin, Texas; grandchildren Dustin (Sideny) Eagleton, Matthew Eagleton, Daniel Miller, Carly Miller, Robin Eagleton, Grace White, Avery White; great-grandchildren Makenzie Miller, Nathan Miller, and Ivan Miller. Dick was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Lee and Bill Eagleton.
A graveside ceremony will be held at Parkview Cemetery in Peoria, Illinois followed by a Celebration of Life. Contributions in Honor of Dick may be made out to the The Childrens's Home of Peoria or to a charity of your choice. Online tributes and condolences may be made at www.cumerfordclary.com.
