My husband Richard J Falsetto Sr, known for his popular nickname (Bunny), passed away peacefully May 22, 2025 at the University of Colorado Hospital. His loving family was at his side when he was called home by his loving Lord and Savior.
My husband Richard was a family man. He was always there for our kids, he cared for his parents until their death, he was supportive of other relatives and friends through troubled times.
Bunny was born April 6, 1946 in Walsenburg, CO.
He had just celebrated his 79th birthday in April.
Richard (Bunny) lived in Walsenburg until 1989 and later moved to Pueblo after transferring from Lathrop Youth Camp to PYC in Pueblo.
Richard (Bunny) was preceded in death by his father Joseph Louie (Peewee) Falsetto, mother Michelena Ricottone, aunt Lena Ricottone and sister Marylou Falsetto Self May 2019.
Bunny is survived by his younger brother Lawrence (Larry) Falsetta, niece Donna Self, nephew Paul Self. Bunny was blessed with four grandchildren: Gianni Cundall, Rikki JayLee Falsetto, Zoey Bella Falsetto children of son Richard Falsetto Jr and wife Bambi. Joseph Louis Wormington, son of daughter Vanessa Wormington.
Richard attended St Mary's School in Walsenburg. On April 25th 1954 he received his First Holy Communion. He graduated in 1964. He then attended Texas University, a Southern Colorado State College and TSJC in Trinidad. In 1966 Rich was a Trojan letterman. He was a counselor at Lathrop Youth Camp.
Rich married Cathy Jeanne Terrian in Walsenburg Colorado at St Mary's Church on July 29, 1971, when he was 25 years old, Cathy was 23 years old.
His daughter Vanessa Rhea was born on April 7, 1972, in Pueblo, Colorado. His son Richard Jr was born on March 25, 1977, in Walsenburg, CO at Huerfano Memorial Hospital.
Before moving to Pueblo, Richard and Cathy managed Chet's motel and later bought the business.
He worked at the Dept of Youth Services after relocating to Pueblo and then became a parole officer in the Colorado Springs area.
Richard started getting involved with the Walsenburg Golf Course in Walsenburg when he was 20 years old. He later became the General manager and organizer of many Invitational tournaments.
He was nominated as one of 1977's Outstanding Young Men of America. He was a 3rd Degree Knight/Columbus. He was on City Council Ward 3 in 1974, Booster Club in 1976. Briefly he was police commissioner and mayor protem.
The highlight of his life was attending his granddaughter's soccer, basketball and cross country games. Rich enjoyed coffee with his friends every day, he definitely enjoyed golfing the short nine at the Elmwood Golf Course. He enjoyed helping out with the beer tent at the St Francis church summer festival. Keeping his grass green was an obsession!
Rich spent from September 15, 1969 to September 14, 1975 in the Army/Raton National Guard. His specialty was Sharpshooter Rifle M16/LADA.
He enjoyed daily bible study with his wife Cathy, followed by reading the Pueblo Chieftain and Denver Post. Politics was of interest to him. After this a good breakfast made his day!
The unique and positive impact he had on others was his winning smile and his talent at being a peacemaker. He loved people and waved at everyone when out and about.
What a special man. We would have been celebrating almost 55 years of marriage on July 29th. Our marriage was our destiny and definitely blessed by God!
Rosary, 10 am with Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 am to follow Wed., June 11, 2025 both at St. Francis Xavier Church. Interment will follow at Imperial Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
There will be a celebration of life reception in the church hall after interment.
