Richard J. Farren, 81, of Scranton, formerly of Dunmore, passed away on Wednesday afternoon surrounded by his family at the Green Ridge Health Care Center in Scranton while under the care of Hospice of the Sacred Heart. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Barbara Tur. The couple were married for 56 years.

Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Richard and Dolores Mies Farren. He earned his GED alongside his wife, Barbara, from the Scranton Technical High School and honorably served in the United States Army. Prior to retirement, he was a maintenance technician for Procter and Gamble.

Rich enjoyed going out for his favorite meal, breakfast, almost every morning. He also enjoyed playing poker and calling Bingo at the Green Ridge Senior Apartments, going to stock car races, watching Wheel of Fortune, and playing solitaire. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife to both Hawaii and Las Vegas.

The family would like to thank Dr. Hyzinski, Dr. Weston, and Dr. Sethi, along with Jeremy from Green Ridge Health Care Center for their care and compassion. Richie was especially grateful for the visits during his illness from Bobby, Tammy, Joanie, & Patty.

He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Surviving is his daughters, Barbara Keller and husband Wesley, Dunmore, Michelle Jacques and husband Kenneth, Dalton, Debbie Abraham and husband Sal, Boca Raton, FL.

Grandchildren, Katelyn Jacques, Scranton, and Amber Abraham, Boca Raton, FL.

Aunt Angie Mies and her children, Bobby, Joey, Judy, and their families. A cousin, Joanie Perry and her daughter, Patty Severe.

He was also preceded in death by an infant sister, Dolores Farren.

The funeral will be Thursday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30am at Immaculate Conception Church, 800 Taylor Ave. Scranton.

Interment, Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton.

Family and friends may pay their respects on Wednesday from 5-7pm at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be sent to Immaculate Conception Church in Richard's memory.
