Richard Addison Fording Sr.

Lake Almanor West resident Richard A. "Dick" Fording, Sr. passed from this life suddenly, Friday evening, July 19th, 2013 at Seneca Health Care District's Hospital. His loving wife was at his side. Born May 29, 1942 in Berkeley, California to the late California natives Addison and Ida (Wright) Fording, Dick as he was affectionately called was raised and educated in Berkley graduating from Berkeley High School as a member of the "Class of 1960" where he lettered in wrestling and football. He went on to attend Cal Poly San Luis Obispo before graduating from Diablo Community College. 1964 was a special year in Dick's life; he married the love of his life along with his best friend Joanne Fritz whom he had met at a local church function and they were married in El Cerrito on March 14, 1964. He also began what became a 43 year career with Pacific Gas and Electric, retiring as a General Foreman. Dick served his country honorably as a member of the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve. He and Joanne relocated to the beautiful shores of Lake Almanor in 1985 from Atascadero, CA. When a cause arose that Dick felt the need to support he took it on with a passion like no other. As a member of the Lake Almanor West Services District, Dick took on the unenviable position of President of the Board leading the community through numerous transitions. As an avid outdoorsman he has served as a member of the Plumas County Fish and Game Commission for the past four years, served as a committee member of the local Ducks Unlimited Chapter, the California Waterfowl Association, a member of the Save Lake Almanor Committee, NRA, Almanor Fishing Association, Westwood Lake Almanor Snowmobile Club, Elk Foundation amongst many others. He enjoyed taking on the task of repairing just about anything in his spare time. In passing Dick leaves his loving wife of 49 years; Joanne of Lake Almanor West, CA, sons; Richard Jr. and his wife Margaret of Reno, Nevada, Joseph of Carson City, CA, and Matt Spaulding and his wife Kathy of Fernley, Nevada along with his precious grandchildren; Joseph, Bryce, Erika, Braxton, Jesse, Joseph Jake and Josh and great grandchildren Kaedyn and Khloey along with the Westlar Family and a host of dear friends. Following cremation at Dick's request no services will take place.
