Richard "Dick" Gilger, 93, passed away peacefully at his home in Canton, surrounded by his loving family, after a brief illness on October 13, 2024. Born on September 28, 1931, in Canton, OH, Richard dedicated himself to a successful career in the trucking industry. He joined the Teamsters Union Local 92 and rose through the ranks to become Vice President after starting as a business agent. His thirty-year tenure with the union culminated in a well-deserved retirement in 1996 at the age of 65.
Dick was not only a dedicated professional but an avid golfer who found great joy out on the greens. He cherished his family, finding his greatest happiness in their company, and had a passion for both golfing and friendly wagers on football games.
He was preceded in death by his parents Alfred and Margert Gilger; wife Barbara in 2015; and sons Richard, Robert, and Joseph. He is survived by children Steve Gilger, Mark Gilger, Barbara Strong (Hollis), Holly Gilger, and Tami Holland (Dean); and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Gary Smith officiating. Prior to the funeral service Calling Hours/Visitation will commence at 10:00 am. Interment at Forest Hill Cemetery.
