Obituary published on Legacy.com by Fred H McGrath & Son, Inc. - Bronxville on Nov. 19, 2025.
Richard Francis Gill was born on September 6, 1932, born to Margaret O'Keefe. He grew up in the community of Edgewater in Throggs Neck, Bronx NY and attended St. Francis de Chantal grammar school and onto St. Ann's High School through a sports scholarship.
Richard later entered the Navy and served in the Korean war where his tour brought him around the world from Africa to Cuba. As an accomplished athlete, he was often chosen to participate in a wide range of sporting competitions with local citizens of countries aimed at building trust and goodwill during the conflict.
After marrying the love of his life, Irene (Curry), they started a family in New Rochelle, NY and then moved to Crestwood, NY where they made Annunciation Parish and Crestwood their home for over 62 years.
Richard enjoyed a successful career in industrial wire sales where he garnered the respect of the unions of New York, particularly with Local 3. His relationship with colleagues and clients turned into many long-lasting friendships. He loved working and did so until he was 88 years young.
He was a longtime member of Leewood Golf Club where he established close friendships and was known for his talent both on the golf course and in the club singing into the late hours. Many memories were made at the Jersey Shore with family and friends. He loved the beach and all that came along with it.
Richard was a man of deep faith and kind-hearted to everyone. He will always be remembered for his warm eyes that "always smiled" and his knack for engaging people. He had a natural ability to make people feel comfortable and welcomed with his Irish wit, coaxing them into singing an Irish tune or two.
Richard cherished his wife Irene, who was by his side through all the amazing and challenging times throughout their 65 years of marriage. Their marriage represented the purest definition of "in sickness and in health" and they were a magnificent example of Christian marriage. He adored his four children Carole, John (Silvia), Irene (Chris) and Rich (Eileen) as well as seven grandchildren, Michael and Sean (predeceased), Jesscia, Matthew, Francesca, Patrick and Jack. He made sure his children and grandchildren knew how much they were loved and stressed the importance of family and faith.
Richard was loved by all who knew him. He will be remembered for his faith, warmth, devotion to family, boundless optimism, and love of people.
