Nicola S. Brusco, age 91, died peacefully on November 12th, 2025, at his home in Yonkers, New York. He was surrounded by his family and his faithful dog Teddy. It is fitting that Nicola passed on the 3rd day following the reading of 1 Corinthians 3:9-11 at Sunday mass. As Jesus was the master builder of our faith so too was Nicola a lifelong builder, not just of "houses" as he called brownstones but of his family and lifelong friendships. Nicola was born in Belmonte, Calabro, Prov. Consenza, Italy on January 27, 1934. He was the son of Joseph and Cristina Brusco and had one sibling, Rosina. He left Italy at age 14 and moved to New York. He attended Commerce High School on the Westside of Manhattan and wasted no time pursuing his American Dream. As a young man he aspired to be an opera singer and later became a longtime supporter/ member of the Metropolitan Opera. He was no stranger to hard work and during his career path he performed various jobs including, an ice man, a laborer and then a union carpenter working on projects including Madison Square Garden and Temple Emanu-El. He then went on to found his own construction company with his brother-in-law, Domenico Pate, Brusco & Pate Contracting Corp. He married Maria Bisceglia on November 9th, 1957. He and Maria were happily married for over 60 years and they had five (5) children together. Nicola was a lifelong Catholic and worked until his late 80's. He loved life and enjoyed the outdoors, particularly gardening, hunting, and fishing. Thursday evenings were opera night at the Met with Maria and Sundays were reserved for his family and home cooked meals. He loved to watch Joe DiMaggio at Yankee Stadium as a teenager and was a lifelong Yankees fan. Nicola is survived by his older sister Rosina and his five (5) children Joseph (Marylou), Nicholas (Lucy), Paul (Michelle), John (Jaqueline) and Cristina (Kirk), eighteen (18) grandchildren and six (6) great – grandchildren. Calling hours at the Fred H. McGrath and Son, Funeral Home, Bronxville, between the hours of 5pm to 8pm Thursday, November 13th, 2025 and Friday, November 14th, 2025. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the St. Joseph's Church in Bronxville, New York on Saturday, November 15th, 2025, at 9:45am. The entire Brusco family would like to express their gratitude to the community for its support, as well as, William Suozzi MD, Van Hong Nguyen, MD, and their staffs for the care and the dignity that they provided Nicola. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, at www.stjude.org.

JOSE ABAD

November 14, 2025

I would like to extend my heartfelt condolences to the entire Brusco family. I had the privilege of being Mr. Brusco´s tenant for over twenty years, and, more importantly, of sharing many everyday moments with him. I will always remember his kindness, his unwavering work ethic, and his deep devotion to his family. His dedication and values reflect the very best of the spirit of New York.
Unfortunately, I am traveling and unable to attend his funeral, much as I wish I could be there.
I will miss our conversations dearly.
May God bless him.
Rest in peace,
Jose Abad
