Richard Frederick Goudie Jr., age 73, known to most as Rick, passed away Tuesday, April 15th, 2025 at his home in Lakewood, OH. His life's journey began in Cambridge, MA, leading him to the West Coast, Seattle, WA, and the Bay Area of California before settling in Memphis, TN, where he met and married Kathleen "Kathy" Stroh (the girl next door) and started their family. His adventures continued to the shores of Maryland, and the mountains of Colorado, before settling in Lakewood.
Rick was very analtyical, but was also a dreamer. He was known for his wonderful ability to plan spectacular vacations, creating lasting memories for those he traveled with. A lifelong learner with a voracious appetite for knowledge and reading, Rick was passionate about current events, music, politics, sports, history, and geography. He was a loyal fan of Boston sports, especially the Red Sox and Celtics, and also enjoyed the thrill of thoroughbred horse racing. An industrial baker with Colonial Bakery for over 20 years, Rick was also an entrepreneur who turned a passionate hobby into a lucrative side hustle (that cannot be named – let's just say he was ahead of his time). His sharp wit and stoic presence will be deeply missed.
Rick is survived by his wife of 48 years, Kathy, his children: Kathryn (Eason) Woolfolk, Richard (Allison), Patrick (Lauren), and Robert (Alexa), and his grandchildren: Evie, Liam, Sam, Richie, Ann, Alyssa, and Caden. He is also survived by his stepmother: Shelia Goudie and his siblings: Cheryl Goudie Simco (Bill), Dawn (Keith) James, Jacob (Diana), and dozens of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents: Veldora J. Goudie Davidson and Richard F. Goudie Sr., and his sisters: Charlene Olsen, Karen Follis, and Debbie Brewer.
"What a not long enough strange trip we had with him".
Private services and interment will be held. Memorial contributions may be made in Rick's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. www.ZMFH.com
