Richard Grassette Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Groce Funeral Home & Cremation Services- Lake Julian on Feb. 26, 2026.
Richard William Grassette Sr., 88, joined heaven's angels on Tuesday, February 24, 2026. The resilient Mr. Grassette was born in Hartford, CT to the late Andrew Thomas Grassette and Edith Mae Benson Grassette. He was preceded in death by his two brothers – Andy and Ronnie, his eldest son and grandson – Rick and Ricky, grandson Timothy, grandson Jeffrey Jr, granddaughter Courtney and numerous beloved family and friends.

Richard made friends everywhere. He was an entrepreneur, negotiator, and salesman, driven to make the most out of each opportunity. When not working, he enjoyed fishing – it was a family affair – and he loved catching whoppers and telling the tales. Richard's stories were captivating, and often true.

Richard was the patriarch of our family. He inspired and motivated us, gave great hugs, loved animals, grew grand gardens, enjoyed building, cooking, and treasure hunting. Mr. Grassette worked and played hard, having a job for anyone willing to help and a delicious meal for any hungry guest. Richard was one tough cookie, and he will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife Susan Bennett Grassette, nine children (Scott Grassette (Melinda), Steven Grassette (Laurie), Jeffrey Grassette (Lisa), Gregory Grassette, Edith Grassette (Keenan), John Brown (Tammy), Kenny Brown, Melissa White (Dennis) and Adam Grassette (Tracy)), 21 grandchildren and 23 great -grandkids.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Arden Presbyterian Church on Friday, March 6th, 2026. The family will receive guests beginning at 1:30PM. Service will begin at 2PM.
