Richard W. Hackbart, age 82, of Ripon, WI passed away unexpectedly on Friday, February 28, 2025, at SSM Health Ripon Community Hospital with his family by his side.
Richard was born in Waukesha, WI on April 20, 1942, the son of Elmer and Bernice (Hanke) Hackbart. After graduating from Westfield High School in1961, he moved to Ripon and worked at Ripon Foods. On June 29, 1963, he married Judy Warzynski at Good Shepard Catholic Church in Westfield, his wife of 61 years. He retired from Mercury Marine after 42 years.
He enjoyed being project leader for Spring Valley 4-H where his children participated. He was fond of hunting, fishing, traveling and spending time with family and friends. In later years, he cherished watching his grandchildren’s school and sporting events. In addition, he was involved with the Knights of Columbus, often found grilling brats, and was longtime member of St. Catherine of Sienna Catholic Church in Ripon.
Richard is survived by his wife, Judy; his children, Shelly (Dale) Popp of Ripon, WI, Missy (Geoff) Gallert of Racine, WI and Mark (Kaycee) Hackbart of Las Vegas, NV. He has 7 grandchildren, Matt (Chelsea) Burris, Joey (Chelsea) Burris, Jackee (Adam) Schwartz, Ashley (Landyn) Maurer, Brooke (Chris) Decker, Kayla Gallert and Andy Hackbart. He also has 8 great-grandchildren, Emma, Lyla and Maci Burris, Carter and Cami Burris, Cecelia and Colton Decker, and Rylie Maurer. He is further survived by his brother, Raymond Hackbart of Coloma, WI; sister, Carol (Denver) Wright of Iola, WI; brother-in-laws, Robert Warzynski of Coloma, WI and Russell Zimmerman of Friendship, WI; and his sister-in-laws, Charlotte (Glenn) Christofferson of Friendship, WI and Jeannette Warzynski of Westfield, WI.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Bernice Hackbart; a brother, Elroy Hackbart; a sister, Joyce Morrell; sisters-in law, Beverly Zimmerman, Glenda Warzynski, LuAnn Hackbart and Colleen Hackbart; and brothers-in-law, James Warzynski and Richard Morrell.
A visitation for Richard will be held from 9:00 am until 11:00 am on Monday, March 10, 2025, at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 228 E. Blossom St., Ripon, WI 54971.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Richard will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, March 10, 2025 at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Ripon, with Father Chuck Wrobel officiating. You may view a livestream of the mass at 11:00 am by visiting www.facebook.com/stcatherineripon. Interment will follow at St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery, Town of Ripon. A memorial is being established in Richard’s name.
