Richard Hall Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by The Meeks Mortuary & Crematory - Washington Street Chapel on Feb. 22, 2026.
Richard Allen "Dick" Hall January 7, 1939 – February 21, 2026

WILMORE, KENTUCY - Richard Allen "Dick" Hall, 87, formerly of Muncie, Indiana, went home to be with the Lord on February 21, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Richard was born on January 7, 1939, in Muncie, Indiana, to the late Oscar and Bertha (McClain) Hall. Before moving to Wilmore, Kentucky, eighteen months ago, he was a lifelong resident of Muncie. Dick graduated from Royerton High School and began his working career at Muncie Electronics. In 1966, he started a 32-year career with General Motors. Following his retirement, he continued serving the community by working part-time at The Meeks Mortuary for 18 years.

Dick was deeply involved in high school athletics for more than 45 years, including his years as an official for baseball, basketball, football, and softball, and his later years as an observer of basketball officials for the IHSAA. In recognition of his dedication and impact, he was inducted into the Delaware County Athletic Hall of Fame for his outstanding contributions to officiating.

Dick was married to the love of his life, Sara Beth (Shaffer) Hall, for 61 years. Together, they built a life rooted in faith, family, and service. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who found great joy in supporting his daughter and grandchildren in all their activities. After retirement, Dick and Beth spent winters in Florida, enjoying the warmer climate together. They especially enjoyed attending Southern Gospel music concerts and sharing that love of music throughout their lives together.

He also attended Cardiac Rehab for 22 years, where Katrina Riggin provided exceptional care and guidance. Dick and his wife were deeply grateful for her support, and he cherished the many friendships he formed through the program.

In Muncie, Dick served on the board of Willow Lake Condominiums, where he was an active and dedicated resident. For many years, he and Beth were faithful members of Glad Tidings Church and Eden Church, where they formed many lifelong friendships. After moving to Wilmore, they became members of Wilmore Free Methodist Church.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings: Faye Carpenter, Irene Payne, Janette Nottingham, Lucy Umminger, Betty Hall, Dottie Hall, and Jim Hall.

Survivors include his loving wife, Beth; daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Aaron Yoder; cherished grandchildren, Will and Katie Yoder; sister, Janice Turner; and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by dear friends Tom and Nancy Childs; Sally DeBord and her late husband, Bob; Sherrell Bryant; and Becky Roland, whose friendship meant so much to Dick and Beth.

Dick will be remembered for his kindness, sense of humor, strong work ethic, and unwavering love for his family and faith.

The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Hospice for the compassionate care and support provided to Dick and his family during his final days.

Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, February 27, 2026 at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Mt. Pleasant Chapel, 7901 W. Isanogel Road, Muncie, with Pastor Kevin Holt officiating. A reception will immediately follow the services at the mortuary. Private burial will take place at Buena Vista Cemetery.

Family and friends may call at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Mt. Pleasant Chapel, 7901 W. Isanogel Road, Muncie, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. on Friday, February 27, 2026.

In remembrance of his life, the family asks that charitable donations be made to the American Heart Association or to Hospice.
