Richard Hassemer Obituary

Publish in a newspaper

Richard "Dick" J. Hassemer, age 84, of Bloomer, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on August 28, 2025.

He was born on October 27, 1940, in Bloomer to Beatrice (Walrath) and Arthur Hassemer. Dick graduated from Bloomer High School and worked at The Farmer's Store while farming alongside his father eventually taking over the family farm. Dick had a strong work ethic and took great pride in the farm.

On May 6, 1961, he married the love of his life, Sharon (Schindler). Together, they farmed and raised their family. Dick and Sharon enjoyed trips to the casino, attending tractor shows, and cheering on the Green Bay Packers. Dick especially loved playing cards-though he wasn't fond of losing!

He is survived by his two children, Rhonda (Tom) and Rick (Kelly); five grandchildren, Morgan, Ryan, Jordan, Andrew, and Lexi; three great-grandchildren; and many extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Sharon; two children, Tammy and Chris; parents, Arthur and Beatrice Hassemer; and sister, Kathy Scheidler.

Visitation will be held on Friday, September 26, 2025, from 4-6 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home in Bloomer. Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, September 27 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Bloomer at 11 a.m. with Father Brian Ward celebrating the mass. Interment will follow at St. Paul's North Catholic Cemetery. A meal will be served at the farm (12601 State Hwy. 64, Bloomer) after services.

The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the care team at Mayo Health Care, the incredible hospice team and staff at Chippewa Manor for their support and kindness in recent weeks. Special thanks also go to the family and friends who visited and checked in-your acts of friendship meant a lot to all of us.
