Richard Fredrick Hellmer

Richard Fredrick Hellmer, 83, of Centennial, Colorado, passed away on March 15, 2024.
Richard (Dick) was born on March 21, 1940 to Rose and Henry in Minneapolis. He was one of three boys: the late Robert, Richard, and Gary. He spent his childhood in Pipestone, Minnesota and enjoyed spending his Saturdays using his one nickel at the movie theater that his father owned. He also was an avid baseball player and even played as a pitcher in college for a short while.
Dick attended the University of Minnesota and studied marketing. While in college, he met the love of his life, Sydne Nolden. The two married in 1960. Soon after, they welcomed the births of their daughters: Elizabeth and Cathleen. In 1962, he and his family moved to Madison, Wisconsin where he worked for Oscar Mayer.
The family moved around over the next twenty years while Dick worked for several meat companies. During this time, Syd and Dick welcomed two sons: Michael and David. The family made permanent roots in Denver, Colorado in 1983. Dick started his own meat brokerage company in 1987. His company grew until 2014 when he decided to retire.
Dick had many hobbies, but his favorite pastime was spending time with his family. He especially loved watching his children play sports whether it be at a swim meet, a pool match, a baseball tournament, or a racquetball competition. His biggest pride were his two grandchildren, Joseph and Mallory. In his retirement, Dick spent his days either working out, sunning in his pool listening to Frank Sinatra, watching sports on many television sets at the same time in his basement, stopping at every grocery store to pick up a "few" things, or grilling for his friends and family.
Dick was preceded in death by his father, Henry, his mother, Rose, and his brother, Robert. He is survived by his wife, Sydne, his brother, Gary (Robin), his children, Elizabeth, Cathleen, Michael (Nicole), and David (Emily), his grandchildren, Joseph and Mallory, and several nieces and nephews
Mass services will be held at Our Lady of Loreto on March 26, 2024 at 11:30 AM. At 1 PM, there will be a graveside ceremony at Olinger Chapel Hill Cemetery. A reception at Olinger Chapel Hill Mortuary will follow at 1:30 PM.
