Allen Arthur Hellmer, age 85, of Plymouth, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 13, 2025.
Allen was born in
Cascade, WI on August 7, 1940, a son of the late Arthur Hellmer and Doris (Ebelt) Hellmer.
Allen attended the Payne School and later graduated from Plymouth High School in 1958.
On November 9, 1963 he married Karen Lydia Spindler at Salem United Church of Christ in Plymouth. Together they shared a 52-year marriage and ran a dairy and hog farm in Cascade for 38 years. Allen was very proud to have managed the farm to its 100-year anniversary as a Wisconsin Century Family Farm. He and Karen retired and moved to Plymouth in 2006.
Allen loved talking about the rural history in the Cascade and Plymouth communities and staying connected to his lifelong relationships with extended family, local neighbors and friends.
He supported local farm organizations and enjoyed mentoring youth with an interest in farming. He had a particular interest in (and talent for) raising prize-winning hogs for the Sheboygan County Fair. Away from farming, Allen was also very proud of successfully managing the challenges of Type 1 insulin-dependent diabetes over the years, and lived a meaningfully longer life because of his efforts.
Allen was a lifelong member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Cascade. He was committed to supporting the church mission and the local church cemetery. Allen enjoyed working in the outdoors, gardening, attending local fairs, parades, dances and picnics with his wife, family, neighbors and friends. He loved driving his 1968 Buick convertible, playing cards, and rooting for the Packers, Badgers and Brewers.
Allen is survived by two sons Brian (Annette) Hellmer of Madison and Michael of Austin, Texas, two daughters Brenda (Daniel) Klamert of Oconomowoc and Tina (David) Sadler of Oakville, Ontario, Canada; two granddaughters; Monica and Valerie Hellmer; four grandsons: Nathan and Carson Klamert and Evan and Ian Sadler.
He is also survived by one sister Kathy Boeselager of Plymouth and one brother Ray (Jill) Hellmer of Madison. Surviving sisters in-law include Shirley Spindler of Neenah, Darlean (Lloyd) Rumpff of Kiel, Bonnie Spindler of Sheboygan, Violet Spindler of Howards Grove, Jane (Duane) Enders of Plymouth and Janice Hollenberger of Plymouth; brothers in-law Earl (Delores) Spindler of Menasha, and Glen Spindler of Sheboygan Falls, as well as many cousins, nephews and nieces.
Allen was preceded in death by his wife Karen, parents, mother and father in-law: Norman Spindler Sr. and Elsa (Schneider) Spindler; brothers in-law Donald Boselager, Norman Spindler Jr., Robert, Dale, and Roger Spindler, Frank Hollenberger, and sisters in-law Karen and Lois Spindler.
Funeral Services will be on Sunday September 21, 2025 at 12:30pm at Suchon Funeral Home in Plymouth. Pastor Kim Henning, nephew in-law of the deceased, will officiate. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 10:00am until the time of services. Burial will be at St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in Cascade.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in Allen's name for the Sheboygan County Fair Association and the Rocky Knoll Foundation.
The Suchon Funeral Home and Cremation Services is serving the family.
The Hellmer family would like to thank the staff at Rocky Knoll Health Care Center for the care and compassion given to Allen in his last months of life.
