James J. "Jim" Effertz, age 77, of Cascade, passed away on March 1, 2026, at Aurora Medical Center Sheboygan County.

He was born in Milwaukee on May 27, 1948, son of the late Walter and Blanche (Tomas) Effertz. Jim graduated from Bayview High School in Milwaukee and later received his Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from Cardinal Stritch University.

Jim worked at Rockwell Automation for 35 years, starting in the factory and working his way up to IT Manager.

On May 1, 1971, he married the love of his life, Irene Kubiak, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Milwaukee. They resided in Milwaukee for many years following their marriage, moving to Cascade 16 years ago. While in Milwaukee, Jim was very active at Holy Spirit (now St. Rafael), serving as: a lector, communion distributor, and Parish Council – serving as Council President and Treasurer. Jim and Irene also taught high school CCD for almost 20 years. After moving to Cascade, they became members of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Plymouth.

Jim enjoyed hiking, hunting, and taking care of his garden and orchard. He took pride in growing all of his vegetables, grapes, and apples; and cooking, canning, and making his own wine to share his hard work with others. Jim also enjoyed playing the bugle for several drum corps, including 6 years marching with the Racine Kilties Drum & Bugle Corps.

Most of all, Jim loving spending time and taking pictures with his family and friends, and he cherished the time playing with his 7 grandchildren who were the joy of his life.

Survivors include: His loving wife of almost 55 years, Irene; Three children: Tim (Patti) Effertz of Pewaukee, Julie Effertz of Milwaukee, and Mark (Destiny) Effertz of Denver, CO; Grandchildren: Caleb, Tristan, Amanda, Elizabeth, Liam, Rhys, and Dane.

He is also survived by other relatives and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday (March 9, 2026) at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Plymouth. Visitation will take place from 11:00am-12:00pm, with Mass to follow at 12:00pm. Fr. Subi Thomas will officiate, and burial will be in St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery in Plymouth.
