Rick Hemmerly, Piscataway
Richard C. Hemmerly passed peacefully at home on Thursday, March 7th. He shared 77 years of love and secret fishing holes with his family. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, March 13 th from 5-7 pm at the Sheenan Funeral Home, Dunellen. A time of remembrance will begin at 6:30 followed by US military honors. Donations in his memory may be made to the good work of The American Cancer Society. Please share your memories here. His family will cherish them.
Born in Bayonne to the late Chester and Evelyn, Rick was one of two children to bless the Hemmerly family. He grew up in Roselle Park, and following HS graduation, he furthered his studies before enlisting with the US Army. Rick served our country during the Vietnam Era, embodying honor, and dedication.
Upon his honorable discharge, he met Maureen Malloy and the rest was history. They married a few months later, on February 14, 1981. Together, they built a life in Piscataway and were blessed with two sons. He worked hard in packaging sales through the years to provide a good life. Rick cherished fatherhood, relishing in the opportunity to share his passion for fishing and hunting with his boys. An avid fisherman, he found solace and joy on the water, creating memories with family and friends. One of his most recent joys was learning that he would soon be a Grandpa! Baby girl Hemmerly will grow up hearing silly stories of her Grandpa and how much he loved her already.
Rick was a devoted husband and dependable Dad. He was caring, deliberate and often unfiltered; qualities that will be missed beyond measure but will surely bring smiles to those who love him for years to come.
He leaves his wife Maureen of 43 years; his sons David (Erin) and Tommy (Cristal); sister Dorothy Anderson (Kurt); sister-in-law Frances Jannone; nieces and nephews Lori, Courtney, Donald, Colin, Germaine and Shawn; his loyal pup Marlee; and many more fellow fishermen and family.
