Richard Hensley Obituary

PLYMOUTH – Richard Ray Hensley II, a beloved husband, father, and dedicated entrepreneur, passed away on Saturday, June 8, 2024 at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka at the age of 45. Born in Knox on July 18, 1978, he was the son of Richard and Kathy (Clemons) Hensley.
Rick graduated from Knox High School in 1997 and went on to attend college. He would spend summers working with his father installing flooring and soon decided that being a part of the family business was a better fit. Rick wasn't just a dreamer, he turned dreams into reality through hard work, dedication, and remembering that it is "always about the ask." After marrying his bride, Amber Sheppard, on Sept. 10, 2011 they raised their family together. Knowing that the sky is the limit, Rick jumped in headfirst and lead his family on his ultimate dream of owning their own flooring company, Artizan Flooring. This venture became a testament to his legacy of excellence that will endure for generations to come.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Rick will be remembered for his authenticity and unwavering devotion to his family. Despite the demands of running a business, he always made time for his children and ensured he was present for every milestone. Rick's love for the outdoors and sports was infectious; whether camping with family and friends or engaging in sports like wrestling or watching his sons at Taekwondo, he instilled a sense of joy and passion in those around him.
Rick's optimistic outlook on life touched all who knew him. His kind-hearted nature, supportive demeanor, and uplifting spirit left an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to have crossed paths with him. Along with being a steadfast protector of those he loved, Rick was a caring husband, devoted father, and a loyal friend.
Rick will be sorely missed by his parents, Richard and Kathy; his beloved wife, Amber; children, Emma (20), Caleb (14), Connor (11), and Nolan (9); sister, Raylin Hurd; half-sisters, Rachel and Becky Hensley; mother-in-law, Kim Sheppard; sister-in-law, Nicole (Aaron) Jadernak; brother-in-law, Erik (Tonya) Sheppard; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his father-in-law, Mike Sheppard and grandmother, Dulceine Hurt.
Visitation will be held on Monday, June 17, 2024 from 4 p.m. - 7 p.m. EST at Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan Street, Plymouth, IN 46563. Visitation will resume on Tuesday, June 18th at 10AM EST at the funeral home. Funeral services will immediately follow at 11AM EST with Life Celebrant Jim Smart officiating.
Burial will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery, Plymouth with Pastor Ed Trusty officiating.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Fair Haven Foundation, 1702 W. 16th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46202. While Rick was being a warrior through his illness, Fair Haven lovingly provided a place for his family to stay so they could remain close to him.
