Dear Herrick Family,
I am so sorry for your loss. Ric was not just a coworker for the past two seasons at the track, he was a true friend and I feel lucky to have known him. His kindness, humor and steady presence made such a difference as I work alongside him. I looked forward to every morning when I would be working with him.
What I will remember the most is how his face lit up when he talked about you, his family. He spoke with love whenever he talked about his bride; fatherly pride when he spoke about his sons; pure delight when sharing stories and pictures of his grandchildren. You were the center of his world and it was clear to everyone who knew him how deeply he loved you all.
Please know my thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. I hope you will find comfort in the many memories and in the love he leaves behind.
Lastly, I think it grossly unfair that his beloved "Indians" might finally win a pennant and he will not be here to brag to Jeff, our feed supplier who is a die hard Tigers fan.
Ric made a difference in my life and I am grateful for the time spent with him.
With heartfelt sympathy,
Pat Leighton
