Richard E. Herrick, 70, of Lake City, passed away on Monday, September 22, 2025.

He was born in Erie on June 22, 1955, to his late mother, Althea (Teats) Leeper.

Richard graduated from Iroquois High School in 1974. Following high school, he managed several convenience stores throughout Erie. He later began a long career as salesman, first with Snyder of Berlin and later as an independent contractor with Little Debbie Snack Cakes, where he dedicated over 35 years until his retirement in 2020.

Richard had a passion for horse racing and, following retirement, worked as a security guard at Presque Isle Downs & Casino Racetrack. He was also a devoted fan of Cleveland sports and Notre Dame Fighting Irish football. He loved caring for his beloved dogs Maggie, Stryker, and Rudy. Above all, he will be remembered as a hardworking and loving husband, father, and "Gramps" to his cherished grandchildren.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his brother, Levi Herrick.

Richard is survived by his loving wife of more than 40 years, Judy (Sheehan) Herrick; his sons, Cody T. Herrick (Kaylyn) and Zachary R. Herrick (Meredith); his sister, Nancy Hollenbeck; grandchildren, Henry Herrick and Harvey Herrick; and his dear friend, Dennis Bernardini, along with Carrie and Walt Crosby, who was a true father figure in his life.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest Pennsylvania, 1507 Grimm Drive, Erie PA 16501.

Per Richard's wishes, services will be held privately.

Condolences may be expressed at www.edderfuneralhome.com.

Dear Herrick Family,

I am so sorry for your loss. Ric was not just a coworker for the past two seasons at the track, he was a true friend and I feel lucky to have known him. His kindness, humor and steady presence made such a difference as I work alongside him. I looked forward to every morning when I would be working with him.

What I will remember the most is how his face lit up when he talked about you, his family. He spoke with love whenever he talked about his bride; fatherly pride when he spoke about his sons; pure delight when sharing stories and pictures of his grandchildren. You were the center of his world and it was clear to everyone who knew him how deeply he loved you all.

Please know my thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. I hope you will find comfort in the many memories and in the love he leaves behind.

Lastly, I think it grossly unfair that his beloved "Indians" might finally win a pennant and he will not be here to brag to Jeff, our feed supplier who is a die hard Tigers fan.

Ric made a difference in my life and I am grateful for the time spent with him.

With heartfelt sympathy,

Pat Leighton
