Richard D Hews

Richard D Hews, a beloved chiropractor in Albany, Oregon, passed away on September 4, 2025, at the age of 80. Born July 13, 1945, in Jamestown, North Dakota, Richard was the son of Paul and Ethel Hews. He graduated from high school in Moorhead, Minnesota, and attended Moorhead State College before earning his degree from Chiropractic College in Minneapolis, Minnesota. On February 12th, 1965, he married his high school sweetheart, Sharon Lovold, and together they built a loving family.

Richard earned his license to practice chiropractic in 1969 and opened his practice in Albany, Oregon, dedicating 37 years to the health and support of his community. He was the president of the Albany Civic Club in 1973 and recognized as Chiropractor of the Year in 1983. His commitment extended beyond the clinic as a community leader, serving on civic initiatives and engaging in programs to improve Albany's public life. As a member of the High Country Knights of the Round Table, Richard was honored with numerous awards for excellence and research in chiropractic medicine.

Richard's compassion and adventurous spirit were evident in his love of family vacations, especially summers at Lake Shasta and winter skiing at Mount Bachelor. He found joy visiting Maui and relaxing with a good book, making reading one of his favorite pastimes.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Ethel. Richard is survived by his wife, Sharon; Daughter, Jodi Shultz (Ted) of Salem; Son, Derek Hews (Aurelija) of Albany; Sister, Karen Hews (Peter) of New Hampshire; and two grandchildren.

Richard was deeply respected not only for his expertise and dedication as a chiropractor but also for his kindness and his commitment to improving the lives of those around him. His legacy lives on in the family, friends, patients, and community he cared for with such passion and devotion.

There will be services held on September 17, 2025.

A public visitation will be held at Aasum Dufour Funeral Home from 8:30 - 10:30 am.

A graveside funeral service will follow at 2 pm at the Pacific View Memorial Gardens, located 2164 NE East Devils Lake Rd, Otis, OR 97368
