Richard Herbert Hills, 85, husband of Laura Haugen Hills, passed away Wednesday, November 12, 2025. Born in Fond du Lac, WI, he was the son of the late Harold and Nina Titel Hills.
A former surgical operating room technician and certified respiratory therapist at the 312th Evacuation Hospital in Vietnam, Richard served in the US Army and retired after 20 years of service at the rank of Sargent First Class. During his time in the military, he served in the Vietnam War and made many friends during his seven tours of overseas duty, while also taking advantage of everything the Army had to offer. He was a gun collector, enjoyed riding horses and loved animals in general, most notably cats and dogs. He was a member of American Legion Post 24 and the Eagles Club in North Dakota.
In addition to his wife of 29 years, he is survived by his sons, Richard Grant (Michelle) Hills and Anthony Joseph (Julia) Hills; their mother and friend, Marilyn Hills; sister, Dorothy Farvour; sister-in-law, Cindy (Ron) Hills; as well as numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Lois; and brothers, Ron and Darrel; brother-in-law, Bob and sister-in-law, Shelby.
Visitation will be 2-4 PM Monday at Johnson's Funeral Home, followed by a prayer service and military honors.
