Beloved Husband, Father, Father-in-law, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather, Brother and Uncle
Richard "Dick" William Hyams, 86, of
Toms River, NJ, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born in White Plains, NY, Dick was one of five children. As a boy, he spent several cherished years attending Fort Augustus Abbey School in Scotland, spending summers in Ireland with his beloved cousins-memories he would recount with joy for the rest of his life.
He later attended Stepinac High School in White Plains before proudly serving in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. Stationed in California, New York, and most notably Thule, Greenland, he worked as a flight mechanic on F-104 jets, embodying discipline, skill, and service to his country.
After his military service, Dick pursued several entrepreneurial endeavors, most notably founding RAM Security, a successful alarm business in Saddle Brook, NJ, which he operated until his retirement.
A proud Irishman with an unmistakable twinkle in his eye, Dick had a gift for storytelling. His family and friends will forever remember the countless tales he shared-told with humor, passion, and vivid detail, often more than once with additional embellishments each time a story was told. He loved boating, fishing, traveling, and most of all, spending time with his beloved wife, Maureen, his children, grandchildren and great-grandson. To all who knew him, Dick brought laughter, adventure, and a warm, easygoing spirit.
Dick was a parishioner of St. Justin the Martyr RC Church in Toms River and a member of the American Legion Post 107.
He is predeceased by his mother Margaret Hyams (ne'e Flynn) , his son Rich Hyams and his sisters Barbara Schwab and Debbie Harper.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Maureen (née Ogiela); his four children, Lisa McKay (John) of Saddle Brook, NJ; Lori Pacella (Mike) of Newburgh, NY; James Angello (Mary) of Hillsborough, NJ; and Nicole Ronchetti (Rick) of North Caldwell, NJ; his daughter-in-law Lisa Hyams, beloved brother, Robert Hyams; his sister, Tina Vita; eleven cherished grandchildren-Jacqui Hyams, Brian McKay (Stephanie), Keri Pacella (Steven), Mark McKay, Nicholas Pacella (Lauren), Luke Angello, Liam Angello, Diana Angello, Joseph Angello, Colin Ronchetti, and Logan Ronchetti, his great-grandson, Brayden McKay, and his many nieces and nephews.
