Richard Jacobs Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Robert E. Shure & Son Funeral Home, Inc. on Jan. 12, 2026.
Richard "Dick" "Dickie" Jacobs, 95, died Sunday, January 11, 2025. He was the devoted son of Israel and Alice Jacobs, brother of Howard and Stanley, and cousin of Bobby, all of whom predeceased him. He is survived by his loving wife, Cary; sons and daughters-in-law Steve and Rosie, Andy and Karen, Billy and Teresa, and Peter and Deanna; grandchildren Ben (Alice), Katie, Hailey (Brendan), Marnie (Matt), Celeste (Nick), Teddy, and Bonnie; and great-grandson, Winston. Born in New Haven on May 5, 1930, he was a proud member of the Hillhouse High School Class of 1948, the Yale College Class of 1952, and the Yale Law School Class of 1957. He served in the Navy during the Korean Conflict. He practiced law from 1957 until, literally, the day he died, always putting service before self. He was as indefatigable in his advocacy for his clients as he was effusive in his love for his family. No better man has walked the earth.
Services will be held at the Shure Funeral Home, 543 George Street, New Haven, Connecticut Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. Shiva will be held at the home of Steve and Rosie Jacobs, 62 Cleveland Road, New Haven, Connecticut Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday between 5:00 and 8:00 p.m. Gifts in Dick's memory may be made to New Haven Legal Assistance Association, 205 Orange Street, New Haven, Connecticut.

Dearest Cary,
Where can I begin?

Dickie taught Myron to sail in a tiny little row boat at Dickies age of probably 8 or 9 and Myron a little younger. And they remained strong friends forever.

They were close as brothers.

If Dickie had moved into our community a bit earlier they would probably have never been apart.

Cary, my dear friend, be still strong,
With love and ciao,
Josie

I am so sorry to hear this. I first met him when I was a temporary assistant clerk in New Haven. Attorney Jacobs was a stalwart of the NH County Bar. I only met him a few times as a courtroom clerk. When I passed the bar, Attorney Jacobs called the clerk's office and asked to speak to me. I was nervous wondering why this established lawyer wanted to speak with me. He offered me his heartfelt congratulations on passing the CT Bar. I was floored and touched deeply that someone so established would take time to reach out to me. Thank you Dick for teaching a young lawyer the meaning of grace. Rest in peace.

I am feeling much sorrow on the loss of such a great Mensch as Dick for your Family, many friends, and community members.
Dick was a true Tzadik & anyone who was lucky enough to have known him will always miss the joy and benefits of having been a part of his life.
Dick will be granted a special place in heaven with Hashem
May his memory forever be for a Blessing for all of his Family

Just heard the news. Am away on the west coast and will not be back before Friday. Dick was surely one of the 36 tzaddikim who sustain the world.

I am so sorry for your loss. Richard´s was a very special man. So kind and loving. He always helped us out in so many amazing ways. Like giving us part time jobs so we could learn from him and make some money. He will be missed. I am sorry that I can not attend the funeral as I am not in the area. Love, Ned
