Richard "Dickie" Jones, a beloved father, grandfather, son, and friend, passed away peacefully at his lifelong childhood home on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at the age of 82.
He was born on October 9, 1942, to the late Dolly Jones and the late Mary Grogan Jones. Dickie truly lived a full and meaningful life. He was a dedicated and loyal employee of the Canton Paper Mill for over 30 years. Dickie truly loved farming, but his passion was hunting. He enjoyed hunting deer, coon, and, most importantly, going bear hunting with his close friends and, of course, his hunting dogs.
Dickie's greatest loves were his grandchildren and his great-grandchildren, with whom he shared all his knowledge of gardening and farming, as well as lots of stories about his adventures in the mountains with his "hunting buddies". He will be deeply missed each and every day.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sisters, Barbara Sheperd and Norma Thomason, and son-in-law Robert Holcombe.
He is survived by his daughter, Lora Holcombe; grandchildren, Annie Franklin (Dalton), Brittney Foley (Keegan), and Sara Plemmons; great-grandchildren, Brayden and Xander; a special niece, Tiffany Thomason (Rebecca); also a special friend and caregiver, Jim "Red" Bowman; as well as several other nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Crawford/Ray Funeral Home in Canton, followed by a graveside funeral service with military honors at 2:30 pm at Spring Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. Honored to be serving as pallbearers will be Ronnie Mathes, Dean Inman, Billy Bowman, Jim Bowman, Burton Milnor, Dalton Franklin, Keegan Foley, and Doug Baker.
The family kindly invites family and friends to join them for food and fellowship following the graveside service at the residence located at 63 Wilson Branch Road in Canton.
Crawford / Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service is deeply honored to be caring for the Jones family.
