Richard Randolph Kanode, affectionately known to many as "Ob One Kanode," passed away peacefully on May 22, 2025, in Norfolk, VA, at the age of 72. Born on February 7, 1953, in California, Richard lived a full and vibrant life, graced with a touch of humor and an ever-present smile.
Richard dedicated much of his career to ensuring the safety and well-being of others. He served diligently as an Environmental Health and Safety Manager until his retirement, fostering a legacy of care and responsibility. Prior to his professional endeavors, he proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, where he committed ten years of service.
A man of diverse interests, Richard found joy in the simple pleasures of life. His passion for cars and gardening was matched only by his fascination with old clocks. He cherished moments spent in his garden and delighted in the intricate workings of timepieces, always appreciating the beauty in their design and history.
Richard is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Richard R. Kanode, Sr., and Maudie G. Kanode, as well as his dear sisters, Nancy Lee and Kathy Ann.
He leaves behind his devoted wife, Julie Kanode, his brother, Timothy Kanode, and his four cherished children, who carry forward his legacy in their own lives. Richard's presence will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Though he has departed from this world, the laughter and warmth Richard brought into the lives of those around him will remain in their hearts forever. His memory will be treasured by all who knew him, as we remember a life well-lived, full of joy, laughter, and love.
