Obituary published on Legacy.com by Twiford Funeral Homes - Elizabeth City on Feb. 15, 2026.
Steven Claude Arnold, age 78, of Elizabeth City, NC, died at his residence on Saturday, February 14, 2026. Born in High Point, NC on November 4, 1947, to the late Gilbert Lee Smith, Sr. and Myrtle B. Smith. He was the widower of Katy Arnold and Mary Arnold, the mother of his children.

Steven honorably served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps. He passed away, leaving behind a legacy of cherished memories and a life filled with passion for his work and family. As a self-employed construction professional, Steven took immense pride in his craft, dedicating himself to building and creating throughout his career. In his leisure time, he found joy in bowling, playing poker with friends, as well as indulging in various games on his phone. Above all, Steven treasured his time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Their presence brought immense joy to his life, and he loved every moment spent with them.

He is survived by two daughters, Sherry Davis (Joe) of Elizabeth City, NC, and Tracie Melton (James) of Rocky Gap VA; a sister, Diane Sibert (Joe) of IN; two brothers, Gilbert Smith, Jr. of Virginia Beach, VA, and David Smith (Marsha) of Chesapeake, VA; nine grandchildren, Steven Arnold (Melissa), Kimberlee Rudolph (Tyler), Logan Arnold (Brianna), Lily Melton, Kyra Smith (Michael), Abby Melton, Joseph Rudolph, Brendan James, and Tanner Lee; and three great-grandchildren, Frank Seesdorf, Coltten Arnold, and Rowan Arnold. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Steven Malbone.
