Richard "Dick" T. Kaser, of Sugarcreek, Ohio, passed away peacefully, at home, and with his daughter by his side, on Saturday, September 13th, 2025, at the age of 73. Born in Sugarcreek on August 29th, 1952, he was the only son of the late Richard "Peanut" I. Kaser, of Sugarcreek, and Mary C. (Miller) Kaser, of Canton. Dick lived a rich and enviable life, filled with love, laughter, music, learning, travel, self-exploration, and above all else, a sprinkling of magic that seemed to permeate the very air he breathed. Dick held a B.S., Summa Cum Laude and with Honors in Journalism from Ohio University, as well as an M.A. in International Communications from Ohio State. From 2001 to 2018, he served as Vice President of Content for Information Today. He also previously served as Executive Director of NFAIS (the National Federation for Advanced Information Services) and held management positions with Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS) and the Macmillan Electronic Publishing Group. After many happy years residing with his loving family, first in Worthington, Ohio, then in Sterling, Virginia, and finally, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he ultimately returned to the small town of his birth to live out his final years. An accomplished writer and widely published author, with five books credited to his name, Dick was a lifelong advocate of free speech and other First Amendment rights and principles. He continued to advocate for and advance those principles, even after his retirement, through his ongoing service as Editor for Computers in Libraries magazine, and as an appointed member of the Board of Trustees for the Tuscarawas County Public Library System. In addition to his parents, Dick is preceded in death by his life partners, Victoria (Cox) Kaser and Everett (Rett) Evans, as well as his maternal grandparents, Ralph C. Miller and Hazel C. (See) Miller, his paternal grandparents, Erwin W. Kaser and Hulda C. (Brandt) Kaser Miller, his parents-in-law, Bernard Cox and Jean (Baldwin) Cox, his maternal uncle, Thomas E. Miller, his maternal aunts, Claudia C. (Miller) Clark, Betty J. (Miller) Shutt, Shirley A. (Miller) France, and Myra J. (Miller) Gilnett, his paternal uncles, Willis Kaser and Nolan Kaser, and his paternal aunt, Mildred (Kaser) Gopp. He is survived in death by his devoted, loving, and only daughter, Adaline Burns-Baldwin Kaser (Silvestro), his son-in-law, Ralph Madormo Silvestro, his step-grandson, Dominic Santino Silvestro, his maternal aunt, Martha L. (Miller) Rabatin, his paternal uncle, Lyle Kaser, his two sisters, Laurrie Jo (Kaser) Collins and Madeline C. (Kaser) Lahm, his two brothers-in-law, Ronald Collins and William (Wild Bill) Cox, his sister-in-law, Janet (Cox) Larson, and his nieces and nephews, both by blood and by law, Jody (Farra) Grassman, Michael Farra, Jeanna (Collins) Shriver, Jack Collins, Leah (Lahm) DeLeve, Jennifer (Larson) Otto, and Jeannie Larson (Roberts).

"....All that breathe
Will share thy destiny, The gay will laugh
When thou art gone, the solemn brood of care
Plod on, and each one as before will chase
His favorite phantom; yet all these shall leave
Their mirth and their employments, and shall come
And make their bed with thee. As the long train
Of ages glides away, the sons of men,
The youth in life's green spring, and he who goes
In the full strength of years, matron, and maid,
The speechless babe, and the gray-headed man-
Shall one by one be gathered to thy side,
By those, who in their turn shall follow them."

Thanatopsis, William Cullen Bryant
