Dr. Richard Kovner was born on June 8, 1936, and died on January 9, 2026. He was married to his beloved wife, Dr. Fereshteh Yazdpour Kovner, from 1965 to 2024. He was the father of their only child, Linda Shira Moran. Richard had an accomplished career in Clinical Neuropsychology. He received his Ph.D. in neuropsychology from Stonybrook University. His research on amnesia in monkeys is well known in his profession. His final career position was as the Chief of Neuropsychology at Northshore Hospital.
Richard loved spending time with his wife and daughter, and taking them out for Chinese food and other delicious meals. He had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh and make jokes. He enjoyed traveling with his family and spending time with his wife's family, enjoying outdoor barbecue and holiday meals. He was a very hardworking professional and loved helping patient families assess the brain function of their loved ones with special needs. Richard loved being at home most and with his family. He was an avid reader, loved to listen to classical music, and watch sports - especially baseball in his later years.
Richard deeply loved his wife and best friend, Fereshteh Yazdpour Kovner. He took amazing care of her in the last years of her life.
He was a model of strength, perseverance, wisdom, love, and support for his daughter, Linda. His legacy lives on in her family, children, and grandchildren. He is dearly missed by his family that survived him, including Linda and husband Mike Moran, grandchildren Justin and Rebecca Moran and family, Sabrina Gonzalez Yazdpour and family, Laila Hands and family, his nieces, as well as his sister-in-law Monir Yazdpour.
