Richard Kunch, 91, of Marshalltown, passed away on Tuesday, December 17, 2024 at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Richard will be held on Saturday, December 21, 2024 beginning at 10:30 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Parish-St. Henry Church in Marshalltown. Visitation for Richard will be on Friday, December 20, 2024 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Memorials may be directed to the family. Richard Kunch was born on September 15, 1933 in Tama, Iowa. He was the son of George and Marie (Fredricks) Kunch. Richard graduated from Tama High School in 1952. In 1953, Richard served his country honorably in the United States Navy and served for four years as a cook. On October 10, 1959, Richard was united in marriage to Ruth Morrisey. Richard had worked his whole life as a carpenter and was retired from Ron Stewart Construction. He enjoyed pheasant hunting, gardening and fishing. Richard was very proud of his Bohemian heritage and also loved tending to his roses, woodworking and spoiling his grandchildren with candy and fudge sickles.
Richard is survived by his wife of 65 years: Ruth. Children: Larry (Cheryl) Kunch and Paul (Gail) Kunch. Grandchildren: Geri (Joshua) DeGoey, Stephanie (Justin) Huggins, Sarah Kunch and Evelyn "Evie" Kunch. Great-grandchildren: Jaydon Huggins, Mackenzie DeGoey, Waylon Huggins and Tucker DeGoey.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents: George and Marie and siblings: Betty, George "Bud", Ellen, Violet and Lillian.
