Richard Allen LaFountain, Jr., age 70, of Park Rapids, MN, passed away on Sunday, October 26, 2025, at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND, with his family by his side.
Richard was born on December 29, 1954, in Seattle, WA, the son of the late Richard and Dorothy (Kirsch) LaFountain, Sr. As a baby, the family moved to Waconia, MN. Richard graduated from Waconia High School and then Alexandria Technical and Community College in Alexandria, MN, where he majored in small engine repair. He was married to Julie Stueland on October 7, 1989, in Chaska, MN, and they made their home in Chaska. Richard worked as a line mechanic and boiler operator at M A Gedney until a work-related injury made him retire early in 2008. In 2011 they relocated to Park Rapids, MN. Richard was active in the Boy Scouts and the Lions Club and was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed camping, fishing, playing guitar, and tinkering in the garage. He also enjoyed using an embroidery machine and doing longarm quilting and tinkering on the machines when they malfunctioned.
Richard is survived by his wife Julie LaFountain; daughter, Dawn Lohse; sons, Richard LaFountain, III, Adam LaFountain, Andrew LaFountain, Christopher LaFountain (Samantha Sipes), and Eric Lafountain; and 8 grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents and infant daughter, Elizabeth.
