Richard Carl Lamb was born January 13, 1935, in
Peru, Indiana, to Robert and Beulah (King) Lamb. He was raised alongside his sister, Roberta on the family dairy farm near Peru. After graduating high school, Dick entered the United States Air Force in 1953. Shortly after completing his service, he began working for UPS. That move led to a long career with the company, studying statistics to ensure on time deliveries. When UPS opened a terminal at the Des Moines airport, he managed the setup and operation of that facility until retiring in 1990 after 35 years of service.
Richard met Betty Roebuck Cumings, and the two quickly fell in love. They were married on May 20, 1978, family connections were deeply important to both Dick and Betty, and they built a life centered on togetherness and shared memories.
They made their home in Milo on a small acreage that offered plenty of room for family to gather. Their home became a favorite place for celebrations, especially during the Milo Fourth of July festivities, when everyone knew there was always room for one more.
Dick had a deep love for restoring, collecting, and driving antique tractors and automobiles. He was a proud member of several antique tractor clubs and enjoyed participating in tractor rides, taking special pride in showing off his beloved Massey Harris tractors. Dick and Betty very much enjoyed camping and belonged to a local camping club for many years.
Dick was very active in the Milo Community as well as surrounding Communities, volunteering and serving everywhere he was needed including: the Milo Community Board, Horticulture Club at Lake Aquabi, the Milo 4th of July celebration, and most importantly at the churches where he belonged. Dick and Betty were active in several churches over the years, faithfully giving of their time and talents to share the word of the Lord. They enjoyed volunteering at the Jericho Hills Church Campground for many years. Dick was especially involved in men's groups, participated in mission trips, and opened their home to host missionaries. In later years, they especially enjoyed attending Cowboy Church in Newton every Thursday evening.
People will fondly remember Dick as a kind, gentle, and outgoing individual who took great pride in his community. In addition, his family will remember Dick as the man who was always there. Steadfast in faith that was the guide for his family. He was deeply proud of each of them and found special joy in watching his grandchildren grow.
Dick passed away Friday, January 23, 2026. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert & Beulah Lamb; sons: Scott Lamb, Shannon Lamb, and Ben Cumings; son-in-law, Mike Dwyer; and grandchildren: Michael Daily, Jeremy Daily, and Micky Dwyer.
