Richard Corbin Lawson III, 82, passed away on Wednesday, August 27, 2025. He was born in 1943. Richard was preceded in death by his sisters, Catherine Woods and Barbara Sampson. He is survived by his beloved wife, Yocasta S. Lawson; his children; Michael Lawson, Justin Lawson, Orietta Osborn, Omar Tejera, Steven Osborn, Melissa Lawson, Michelle Lawson, and Rick Frank; his brother, Clifton Ray Lawson; and his grandchildren, Lucas Lawson, Silas Lawson, Cheyenne Emerson, Anthony Amarillo, Fabio Amarillo, Ariel Osborn, Amy Muir, and Thomas Muir. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Dan Lawson, Shawn Lawson, Debbie Lawson, Erica Lawson, Debbie Lawson and Anthony Woods.
Richard was a Captain with the City of Newport News Fire Department, and he was also the Supply and Logistics Officer for the City of Newport News. After retiring, he dedicated himself to working at Firebrand, selling their products to many of the Fire Departments in the northern area of the county. He devoted much of his life to saving lives and helping others. He enjoyed going on seaside vacations. Above all, his greatest devotion was to his family and loved ones.
Richard was a deeply caring person who loved helping others. He was a loving husband, father, a great brother, and a doting grandfather to all his grandchildren. He also loved his little dog Ginger, who was by his side through his final days.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 30, 2025 at Weymouth Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home with interment to follow at Peninsula Memorial Park with Fire Department Honors. Arrangements by Weymouth Funeral Home.
