Obituary published on Legacy.com by Iles Dunn’s Funeral Home on Dec. 22, 2025.
Richard L Major Jr of Granger, Iowa passed away December 15, 2025 at Mercy One Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa after losing his battle with ALS. Born in Gardena California February 22, 1957 to Richard sr. and Thelma (Reed) Major. Richard was the 2nd of eight children. During his early childhood he moved to Berwick Iowa. Richard was married to his beloved wife Cindy Major. Together, they built a life they had always hoped for - one rooted in hard work, love, laughter and loyalty. He was the proud father of three children and truly a friend to all. Richard worked hard and lived life to the fullest bringing fun and energy where ever he went. Richard loved to party with his friends especially at the annual Major Master Pasture Golf Outing and his annual guys' trip.

His strong work ethic, entrepreneurship, and remarkable ability to do just about anything led him through many trades over the years. Whether he was repairing appliances, delivering material through Major Trucking, building homes with RLM Improvements, or handling building maintenance, Richard took pride in every job and did it well. He made friends everywhere he went and was just one call away - ready to help, ready to show up. Richard loved to travel, adored his pets, and cherished his family above all else. Richard will be incredibly missed; the world simply won't be the same without him in it.

Richard is survived by his wife of 36 years, Cindy, daughter Katelynn Major of Granger, sons Chad Major of Des Moines and Andrew (Nicole) Major of New Virginia, seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren and Kevin Davidson of Ankeny.
