Richard John Manthei Sr., age 83, of Bloomingdale, IL, a proud Vietnam Veteran,
passed away peacefully on Monday, April 7, 2025. Born in Chicago, IL, on May 9,
1941, he was preceded in death by his parents, Sonny and Mary Manthei, and his
brother, Ronald Manthei, along with other close relatives. Richard is survived by his
wife, Diane; his children and their spouses; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; his
siblings and their spouses; and many nieces and nephews.
Richard was a strong-willed man who deeply loved his family and life itself. A long-time
truck driver for Jewel-Osco, he enjoyed the open road-whether driving a truck, cruising
in one of his cool cars, or riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle. He found joy in being
outdoors, whether it was sunny and 100 degrees or just a perfect day to enjoy the
beauty around him. Above all, Richard cherished spending time with his family and
traveling. His infectious smile and hearty laugh could fill any room and will be greatly
missed but fondly remembered.
Graveside services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider making
a memorial donation in Richard's name to the Vietnam Veterans of America at https://vva.org/donate/.
