Richard Wayne Martin, a cherished and esteemed member of both his local and veteran communities, passed away peacefully on September 22, 2025, in Del Norte, Colorado, just one day before his 84th birthday. Born on September 23, 1941, in Atlanta, Georgia, Richard's life journey was one marked by dedication, service, and a gentle heart that warmed all who knew him.

Richard's early years in Atlanta were marked by a calling to serve that would define his entire life. After completing his initial education, he joined the United States Army with a steadfast commitment to his country. He served valiantly in the infantry and later attended medical school to become a paramedic, a role in which he saved countless lives with his expertise and calm demeanor. His military career also saw him in the heat of the action in the Artillery in Vietnam and in the discipline of Military Intelligence in Vietnam and Germany. Those who served alongside Richard knew him as the epitome of a soldier: kind, friendly, and gentle, even in the face of adversity.

Upon retiring from the Army, Richard carried the same dedication and kindness into his Christian faith and his daily life, living his beliefs through actions and influencing many with his easy-going nature. He was the kind of person who saw the best in people and situations, a true beacon of positivity in a world that often seems filled with shadows. He was a bronc rider while living in Atlanta, Georgia, and drove truck for a time. He loved the outdoors, especially fishing, and enjoyed playing cards, bingo, and loved his friends here at Homelake.

Richard's interests were a reflection of his personality. He relished the simple pleasures in life-listening to music which carried him through times of introspection and joy, watching westerns that perhaps reminded him of a simpler time, and taking care of his beloved BMW car, which provided him endless hours of entertainment and adventure.

The kind, friendly, and gentle soul that was Richard Wayne Martin will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of crossing his path. His legacy is one of compassion, service, and the reminder that in a complicated world, kindness can be the greatest gift of all. Richard's memory will live on, not only in the stories from his remarkable life but also in the countless lives he touched with his benevolent spirit.

A visitation will be held at the Homelake Veterans Center Chapel from 10-11:00 a.m., followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m., both on Friday, October 3, 2025. Interment with military honors will be held in the Homelake Veterans Cemetery just after the funeral service.
