Richard Matthews Obituary

Matthews, Richard Lee "Rick" of Comstock Park, MI, age 64, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on May 28, 2022, surrounded by family and friends that touched his life greatly. Rick is survived by his wife, Karen; his children, Marisa (Joe) Stolsonburg and Nick (Lana) Matthews; his parents, Dan and Charlotte Matthews; his brother, Dan (Shiela) Matthews; sisters, Pam Matthews, Lori Matthews, and Michelle Harris; his grandchildren, Lia Stolsonburg, Cole Evans and Reece Matthews; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, in-laws, nieces and nephews, and close friends. Rick was a man who could be defined by his strong, unwavering faith in the Lord and his positive attitude that followed him in every situation throughout his life. Rick was blessed to have been a leader within the Bible Study Fellowship organization for many years and loved leading his family Bible studies out of his home. Rick also had a passion for sports. He was a three-sport athlete in high school and later in life he enjoyed golfing with his family and friends and watching his grandchildren play soccer and baseball. Rick was an avid Notre Dame football fan who never missed a game and New York Yankees baseball fan as well. Beyond his love of sports and leading Bible studies, Rick also loved to travel and vacation with his family. Many wonderful vacations were spent on the beaches of St. Pete Florida and the mountains of Gatlinburg, Tennessee, two of Rick's most favorite travel destinations. Rick was an employee of General Formulations in Sparta, MI where he worked for over 30 years. Rick loved his job, his bosses, and his co-workers who were a major part of his life, as he was of theirs as well. Rick will be laid to rest in a private graveside burial with his family. I am so happy I was able to have Rick in my life for 48 years. Rick helped me with EVERYTHING possible. God became a huge part of my life thanks to Ricks knowledge and understanding. I love this man so much and truly look forward to our meeting again. Give Grandma and Gramps a hug for me along with the rest of our family and friends in heaven. LOVE YOU RICK!

Karen, Marisa and Nick, we are saddened to hear of Rick´s passing. Pat so enjoyed coaching with Rick for Northwest Little League and Comstock Park Rocket Football. The boys learned so much from him as a coach in their early years. Always had that smile and words of encouragement.
