Richard McMahon Obituary
Dick grew up in the Des Moines area and graduated from Dowling High School. He received a bachelor's degree in education from Drake University in 1969. After working briefly in the insurance industry, Dick began a thirty-year career as a business education teacher at Lincoln High School. He had lifelong interests in photography and later in videography. Dick was a devoted member of St. Theresa's Catholic Church and was involved in the local Democratic Party.
Dick married fellow teacher Deborah (Deb) Houchen on July 11, 1970, at St. James Catholic Church in Rockford, IL. The two met while attending Drake. They welcomed a daughter, Susannah "Annie," in 1981.
Dick is survived by his daughter Annie of Grimes, his brother Dennis (Dixie) of Altoona, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Deb in 2023, his brothers Jim in 1960 and Mike in 1981, and his parents.
Memorial Service will be held on Friday August 15 th, 1:30PM at Brooks Funeral Care followed by interment at Glendale Cemetery.
