Richard S. Mello, age 85, of Fall River, passed away on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at Rhode Island Hospital.
He was the beloved husband of Marlys I. (Mosier) Mello.
Born in Fall River, Massachusetts, on May 28, 1940, he was the son of the late Manuel Mello and the late Georgianna (Costa) Mello.
Prior to his retirement, Richard worked as a supervisor at Brown University for 40 years and at the Wheeler School for 10 years. A man of many passions, he was a member of the Holy Trinity Church, the Tiverton Senior Center, and the Fall River Pigeon Club. He found great joy in music, spending his free time singing and playing his guitar. His love for country and rock 'n' roll classics ran deep, with favorites including Elvis Presley, Charley Pride, and Johnny Cash. His two greatest loves were music and his wife.
He is survived by his wife, Marlys; his two sons, Barry Mello (and wife Dianne) and Wayne Mello (and wife Lisa); three stepchildren, David Walker (and wife Barbara), Duane Walker (and wife Jeanine), and Debra Fordyce; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of seven late siblings who preceded him in death.
His funeral will be held Saturday, Feb. 28, 2026 at 10 AM at Holy Trinity Church, in Tiverton.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Richard's name to Holy Trinity Church, in Tiverton, or to the Tiverton Senior Center.
