Obituary of Richard Allen Merritt, Jr.
Richard Allen Merritt, Jr. (62), passed away April 17, 2024, at Lexington Medical Center, after a battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born February 16, 1962 in Columbia, SC, to Richard A. and Brenda Wallace Merritt.
Allen graduated from Brookland Cayce High School. He received an Associate Degree from Midlands Technical College in Electrical Engineering Technology and Electronic Engineering Technology. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of South Carolina and a Masters of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of South Carolina. He was a Registered Professional Engineer and was an employee at Dominion Energy with 42 years of service.
Allen was a member of Holland Avenue Baptist Church in Cayce, SC.
He is survived by his parents; a sister, Kelly Merritt Amick (Mark) of West Columbia; and nephew, Hannon Michael Amick of Cayce. He will be missed by Kibler and Merritt cousins and friends and co-workers.
Allen was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, William Bryant and Nettie Boozer Merritt; maternal grandparents, Millard Wiley and Beatrice Kibler Wallace of Newberry, SC; uncle and aunt, William B. and Virginia Merritt.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11AM on Friday, April 19, 2024, at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel in Lexington, SC, with burial to follow at Newberry Memorial Gardens, Newberry, SC. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
The family wishes to express their deepest appreciation to the doctors, nurses and staff at Lexington Medical Center, and to OPUS Rehab Center for their kindness shown to Allen's father, Richard Sr. during this time.
