He was born on September 6, 1949 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Joseph Mitchell and Mattie Reynolds Mitchell.
In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by one brother, Joseph Mitchell, Jr and one sister, Donna Lowe.
He is survived by his two sons, Jason Mitchell (Felicia) of Bradford and Richard Mitchell, Jr. of Trezevant; three daughters, Michelle Vestal (Mark) of Beech Bluff, Jeanine Kail (Jacob) of Fruitland and Judith Hensley (Eric) of Humboldt; two sisters, Brenda Whitman (Harold) of McKenzie and Patricia Dixon (Dale) of Carthage. Other survivors include twenty-four grandchildren; thirty-three great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday, April 22, 2025 at The Tabernacle of the Living God in Milan with Bro. Chris Dickinson officiating and burial to follow at Poplar Springs Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 A.M. until the service hour on Tuesday at the church.
