On February 7, 2025, the world bid farewell to a remarkable soul, Richard A. Morandi. Born in Athol, Massachusetts, on September 29, 1931, Richard spent his entire life in the town he loved, contributing to its growth and prosperity. As a dedicated toolmaker, his meticulous workmanship was the backbone of Union Twist and Drill and later Starrett Tool Manufacturing. He also owned Banco Plastics and painted houses. Richard's craftsmanship wasn't just a job, but a testament to his belief in hard work, precision, and the beauty that lies in the details. He was a man who understood the value of labor and the satisfaction of seeing the results of one's efforts. Richard was not just a toolmaker, but a creator, a community member, and a cherished friend to many. Richard also served in the US Airforce as an Airman 2nd Class, during the Korean War.
Richard's life was not only defined by his profession but also by the love he had for his family. He was the loyal son of Angelo and Maria Morandi, a loving husband to his late wife Mary, and a doting father to his sons, Keith and Kris Morandi. Richard's legacy lives on in his grandchildren Daniel, Shawn, and Brianna Morandi, and great-grandchildren Harper, Vincent, Giada, Freya, Branden, Merrick, and Beckam, all of whom inherited his spirit of resilience, his love for craftsmanship, and his unwavering commitment to family.
In his 93 years, Richard left an indelible mark on the world around him. From the tools he crafted to the family he nurtured, his influence is seen and felt in the things that endure. He is preceded in death by his parents Angelo and Maria, his wife Mary, his brothers Aldo, Ernest, and Edward, and his sisters Linda and Esther. Yet, his legacy continues through his sons Keith (Cheryl) and Kris (Becky), his grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who will keep his memory alive.
Richard's funeral services will be private, and he will be buried at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Winchendon, MA
The Mack Funeral Home, 110 New Athol Road, Orange, MA 01364, has been entrusted with Richard's funeral arrangements.
