Richard Yount Morrison Sr.

Richard Yount Morrison, Sr., age 80, died on October 30, 2023, surrounded by family and loved ones in Statesville, North Carolina. Richard was born on January 1, 1943, in Statesville, North Carolina to parents John Rufus Morrison, Jr., and Edith Marie Yount Morrison.
Richard is survived by his wife of 35 years, Janie Morrison, son Richard Morrison, Jr., daughter Tambra Inman, son John Morrison (Wendy), daughter Melissa McElroy, son Samuel Morrison (Holly), 18 grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents, brother Tom Morrison, brother Bob Morrison, son Les McElroy, grandson Timothy, granddaughter Christina, and great-grandson Keynan.
Richard spent many years throughout his life in service to his communities and to his Heavenly Father through his work with a deaf orphanage in Mexico, prison ministry, Meals on Wheels, singing in the choir, and teaching Sunday School side by side with his beloved wife, Janie. He and Janie were also loving foster parents and served as house parents at a local children's home.
Richard earned an Associate Degree in Applied Science in Electronic Technology and owned and operated his own business specializing in the sale and service of printers and copiers.
Richard enjoyed running and dancing and created his own running style to combine the two. Before his health declined he could often be seen showing his fancy footwork running through downtown Statesville, the local parks, and the YMCA. His wonderful sense of humor and love of jokes and storytelling provided many laughs and much entertainment to his family and friends. Richard brought smiles to those who knew and loved him and he will be missed dearly.
The visitation and memorial services for Richard will be held at Western Avenue Baptist Church on Sunday, November 12, 2023. The church is located at 1206 Museum Road, Statesville, North Carolina. The visitation hours are from 1-2 PM with the memorial beginning at 2 PM.
