Richard Naszkiewicz Obituary

Richard Walter Naszkiewicz

Richard Walter Naszkiewicz, passed away after a short illness, on October 10, 2025, in Joliet, IL, at the age of 82. Born on April 19, 1943, in Roseland, IL, Richard was the beloved son of the late Walter and Constance Naszkiewicz. His life was marked by a deep commitment to knowledge, kindness, and the joy of human connection.

Rich's passion for science and teaching led him to touch the lives of many students throughout his career. He served as a science teacher at Sts. Peter and Paul Grade School in Chicago and formerly at St. John the Baptist Grade School in Harvey. Later, he brought his characteristic warmth and gregarious spirit to the world of entertainment and supplies through his work at Vegas Party Suppliers. Beyond the classroom and workplace, Rich had a keen eye for hidden treasures; he delighted in exploring garage sales, antique shows, flea markets, and resale shops. For many years, he was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Joliet Lodge #300 and was a familiar and friendly face with a booth at Uncle John's Flea Market, where he shared his love of collectibles and conversation with all who stopped by. Equally social and kind, Rich had a natural ability to make friends wherever he went.

Rich is survived by his fiancée, Margaret ""Peggy"" Norcross; sister-in-law, Patricia Naszkiewicz; nephew, Robert Naszkiewicz; nieces, Tricia and Tara Naszkiewicz; and close friends Rich and Paulette, all of whom will remember him for his warmth, infectious smile, and generous heart.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Arlene B. (née Grucel) Naszkiewicz; his parents; his brother, Robert Naszkiewicz; and uncles, Stanley, Kostintine, and Chester Butka. Despite these losses, his legacy of love lives on.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the entire staff of Lightways Hospice for the care they showed to Rich and his entire family.

Visitation for Richard Walter Naszkiewicz will be held on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd., Joliet, IL, from 8:30 a.m. until the time of prayers at 9:15 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at Queen of Apostle Church at 10:00 a.m. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery in Calumet City will be held privately by the family.
