Mueller Funeral Home - MasonRichard L. Nelson, 93, of West Chester Township, Ohio, peacefully passed away on September 20, 2025. He was born on October 6, 1931, in Barboursville, West Virginia, to the late Okey Lee Nelson and Elsie (Lewis) Nelson. He lived a long, full life centered on faith, family, friendship, and a love for the outdoors.
Richard worked for Texaco for 37 years before retiring and later dedicated 17 years as the devoted groundskeeper at his church in Kentucky. A man of steadfast faith, he found joy in life’s simple blessings—hunting, fishing with his granddaughters, and spending time surrounded by nature. Above all, Richard cherished the moments he shared with his family and friends.
He is survived by his loving sons, Stephen (Gina) Nelson and Joe (Lisa) Nelson. Richard was a proud grandfather to Amy (Chris) Colyer, Stephanie (Kevin) Hoehn, Dawn (David) Roark, Joe II (Margie) Nelson, and Clayton (Shiloh) Nelson. His joy extended to his great-grandchildren: Landen and Gavin Colyer, and Nolan and Hannah Hoehn, as well as the many others who were part of his growing legacy, including Meghan, Patrick, and Evan Roark, and Julie and Ruthann Nelson. Richard’s sister, Janet (Jim) Ratcliffe, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, will also carry his memory with love.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wives, Paulette (Thompson) Nelson and Margaret (Richerson) Nelson, as well as his siblings Aletha Osborne, Bernard Nelson, Joyce Harrod, and Leslie Nelson.
As we honor Richard’s life, we remember a kind and faithful man whose warmth, wisdom, and gentle presence touched the lives of all who knew him. He lived with gratitude, loved his family deeply, and left behind a legacy of faith and love that will be cherished always.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Richard’s name to Animal Friends Humane Society, Hamilton, Ohio.
