Richard Earl Neustel, 94, Bismarck, longtime Robinson farmer, passed away on February 8, 2024.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, May 11, 2024 at Bethany Lutheran Church, Robinson, with the Rev. Jacob DeBoer officiating. Burial will be at the Bethany Lutheran Cemetery. Lunch will follow the service at the Robinson School.
Richard was born on May 13, 1929, in Woodworth, ND to Harry and Mabel (Olson) Neustel. He graduated from Robinson High School in 1947. On January 14, 1956, married Sharlow (White) McDade in Bismarck. They made their home together on the family farm 3 miles WNW of Robinson. They raised their five daughters on the family farm with his father Harry by their side. Sharlow passed away on May 8th, 1991. Richard retired from farming and worked for Kidder County. On June 1, 1996 he married Sara Kemmet in Bismarck. Richard and Sara made their home in Dawson, ND where they owned Dawson Groceries and Gas. They continued managing the property until retiring. They loved to travel and take drives.
Richard had many interests and hobbies which included photography, TV repair, gardening, wine making, HAM radio, beekeeping and woodworking. He served on several state, county and local boards and committees. In 1976 he served on the Board of Directors for the Missouri Slope Irrigation Development Assoc. He was a member of the Robinson Lions Club, Bethany Lutheran Church, Robinson, and the Lutheran Church of Dawson.
He is survived by his wife Sara (Kemmet) Neustel; sister Donna Sloan (Gene), ND; daughters, Cathy Koenig (Neil), ND; Peggy Kertscher, ND; Jill Misra (Sunil), FL; June Neumiller (Dale), ND; son-in-law Wayland Degner; step daughters Tami Domke (Paul), SD; and Jami Milow (Dan), MN; grandchildren, Georgette Koenig and daughter Danielle Trapp, ND; Brent Koenig, ND and his children, Cameron Koenig and son Greyson, ND, Keeley and Jade Koenig, ND; Corey Degner (Jenni Underwood) and their children, Grace, Raleigh, and Crew, IA; Jonathan Degner (Kristy Heaton) and their children, Grant and Brody, ND; Sara Leno (Kevin) and their children, Brooke and Weston, ND; Nic and Ben Kertscher, MN; Amanda Neumiller, ND; Anita Misra Goulart (Nicholas), FL: Chad Wick, Samatha Billing, Gavin, Lexi, Toby Milow, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Mabel Neustel, and daughter Nancy (McDade) Degner.
The family would like to thank the staff at Maple View Memory Care and CHI Health Hospice care for their excellent care and support over the last couple of years.
