Alvin (Al) Leroy Hojian, 90, of Steele, North Dakota, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 28, 2025, at St. Gabriel Benedictine Living in Bismarck.
Alvin was born on March 7, 1935, in Bismarck, ND, to Harry and Marguerette (Tjomsland) Hojian. He was raised and educated in Dawson, ND, where he developed his strong work ethic and lifelong love for the outdoors.
On March 30, 1979, Alvin married Janet (Jan) Schuler, and together they raised two children while living in Bismarck. After Jan’s passing on March 9, 2003, Alvin later married Phyllis Hagen on November 18, 2005. Together, Alvin and Phyllis made their home in Steele, where they shared many cherished years.
Alvin loved working with his hands. He enjoyed woodworking, welding, and creating signs during his many years with Bismarck Sign Company and Cook Sign Company. He also enjoyed life’s simple pleasures—watching westerns, attending races, camping, fishing, hunting, and attending as well as working auction sales with his good friend Chuck.
Above all, Alvin will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who cherished his family.
He is survived by his children: Amanda (Ryan) Greicar, Jason Hojian, and Dana (Todd) Mees; his grandchildren: Erin, Carter, Avery, Emery, and Ivy; his great-grandchildren: Kalani and Ezra; and his wife, Phyllis.
Alvin was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Marguerette; his first wife, Janet (Jan); his brothers, Paul, Harry (Joe), and Benjamin (Penny); his sisters, Ester, Laura, Harriet, and Mildred; and his beloved grandson, Kaydin.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at Baldwin Cemetery. Following the service, a celebration of life will be held at 1:00 p.m. at the Steele Amvets.
