Richard D. Nicely

Richard Doyle Nicely, 99, of Ligonier, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2026. He was born in Indiana County on Feb. 5, 1927, a son of the late Charles R. and Janet (Eby) Nicely. Richard was a WWII veteran who had served in the U.S. Army and had worked for A&P Grocery as a supervisor. He was a member of the Ligonier Valley Veterans Honor Guard and enjoyed bowling and mowing grass. Richard is survived by his wife, Janice (Monticue) Nicely; his three daughters, Norma Jean Santmyer (John) of Ligonier, Diane Mack (George) of New Florence, and Joy Pensiero (V.J.) of Ligonier; six grandchildren, Chris Wood (Eva), Richard Wood, Christa Hill (T.J.), Seth Mack (Shannon), Kendra Mack (David Williams), and Scott Fuller (Kayla); seven great-grandchildren, Angela, Madison, Ella, Ethan, Andrew, Aubrey, and Jordin; two great-great-grandchildren, Maeve and Calvin; and a sister, Georgianna Overly of Grove City, Ohio. In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by six brothers and a sister. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 27, 2026, in MCCABE FUNERAL HOME, 144 E. Main St., Ligonier, where his service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 28, 2026, with the Reverend Keith A. Deckinger officiating. Interment will follow in the Ligonier Valley Cemetery. The Ligonier Valley Veterans Honor Guard will present a service at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 27, 2026, in the funeral home. www.mccabefuneralhomespa.com.
