Richard Francis O'Keefe Jr., 81, passed away peacefully at his home in Wallkill, New York, on January 22, 2025. Born on July 15, 1943, in Brooklyn, New York, he was the eldest of nine children to Edna Mae (Daus) and Richard F. O'Keefe Sr. He is survived by his four brothers Timothy, Dennis, William and Christopher and was predeceased by his four sisters Marianne O'Keefe Volpe, Elaine Faith O'Keefe Cohan, Evelyn O'Keefe and Hope O'Keefe Giorno.
Richard graduated from Archbishop Stepinac High School and went on to serve his country with honor in the United States Air Force. He often spoke fondly of his time stationed in Hawaii, cherishing the friendships and memories he made during those formative years.
Following his military service, Richard pursued a successful career in automotive sales. Known for his dedication and professionalism, he spent many years helping customers find their ideal vehicles. He retired from Fulton Chevrolet in 2009, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and commitment.
Family was central to Richard's life. He is survived by his five children: Colleen Carnazza (Joseph), Richard F. O'Keefe III (Terrie Jo), Julie Ann Elmore, Jennifer Anne O'Keefe (Jason), and Timothy O'Keefe; four grandchildren: Melissa Clancy, Shaelynn O'Keefe, Grace Elmore, and Tucker Elmore; and three step-grandchildren: Gregory, Colby, and Nathan.
Richard found great joy tending to the garden on the property he lovingly cared for over 45 years. His green thumb was well-known among friends and family, particularly for his spider plants, which will continue to be shared as a living tribute to his passion for gardening. He also enjoyed spending summer vacations at the beach with loved ones, golfing, and fishing.
A memorial service will be held at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home on February 21, 2025, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., a funeral service will be offered at the funeral home at 1:30PM followed by a military ceremony at Orange County Veterans Cemetery in Goshen, New York.
